This part will lay the foundation by introducing the key theoretical frameworks to be employed in the research such as sociolinguistics. It will delve into the concepts of politeness theory, face-work, and social identity theory, which will be utilized to examine how address forms reflect and form social relations. Additionally, it will address previous research on address forms, which will include detailed reviews of pertinent theories such as the notion of address terms, the function of honorifics, as well as the sociolinguistic variables (e.g., age, class, gender, and ethnicity) that affect address choice. The aim will be to create a comprehensive theoretical basis guiding the analysis of address forms.
